(Past Event) 2017 Christmas Concert – Home for the Holidays

On Saturday, December 16th 2017 at 7:30 pm, St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Newmarket is thrilled to be hosting a benefit concert featuring mezzo-soprano Mia Lennox and baritone Peter McGillivray. All proceeds from the evening will go to the Metroland Santa Fund to help York Region families in need over Christmas.

Mia and Peter were both raised in Newmarket. Both attended Prince Charles Public School and Huron Heights Secondary School. Mia and her family attended St. Paul’s Anglican Church, and Peter attended St. Andrews Presbyterian Church (and his father, Rev. Angus McGillivray, was the Minister there from 1984 – 2001). They both graduated from the Classical Music Performance Program and Opera Program at the University of Toronto, and went on to become National and International professional vocalists. They have both been with the Canadian Opera Company, and performed at many Canadian Opera Houses and some of the greatest Opera Houses in Europe. They have also been featured soloists with internationally famous choirs and have performed many solo recitals. Mia and Peter now live in Hamilton and Sudbury, respectively, when not out ‘on the road’ all over the world for professional engagements.

They will be joined by special guest, baritone Johnathon Kirby. Johnathon was also raised in Newmarket, attending Queensville P.S., Crosslands Elementary, and Bogart P.S. He then attended Newmarket High School. He graduated from the music program at Dalhousie University and has been singing professionally in Nova Scotia, Toronto, Calgary, and in the U.S.

Their accompanist will be playing St. Paul’s new grand piano that we acquired through the very generous donations made by the people and friends of St. Paul’s, and in memory of Tom Campbell. It is a Mason & Hamlin 70 inch Grand Piano in pristine condition, built in Boston the early 1920’s and beautifully restored by Robert Lowrey Piano Experts of Toronto about 20 years ago.

There will be a wine bar at this event. Tickets are only $30.00, and are available by phoning the church office at 905-853-7285 (leave a message with your name and phone number, and we’ll get back to you). Tickets will also be available at the door (if there are any left!).
